This 300SL was purchased new by Col. John Burnsides while stationed in Japan in 1959. It was special ordered with many accessories and unique requests and is the most thoroughly documented Mercedes we have ever seen at Scott Grundfor Company.
Burnsides was President of the Mercedes Benz Club of America and a life long enthusiast of Mercedes Benz vehicles, and thus the documentation that he compiled while owning this Roadster is an exacting biography of the car.
Hundreds of pages of original documentation, including an exhaustive service history from the time of original purchase, comprise a fascinating reading of the life story of this remarkable vehicle. He was the sole owner of the car until it was inherited by his nephew in 2006.
This 300SL Roadster runs and drives superbly and the interior has a beautiful patina. It comes with many historically relevant accessories and items, including the original factory hardtop in the MB Shipping Crate.
An automobile is only in its original condition once and there are only a handful of these “Preservation” 300SL’s left. This vehicle is ready for events or exhibition.
