Provenance
This early, first year of production Mercedes-Benz 560SL was produced on June 16th of 1986 and sold new on August 12th of that same year. Intending to preserve the car and keep it for his planned collection, Joseph Charles Taddeo of Studio City, California stored the car in a climate controlled facility in between usage and had the car serviced by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Irvine, California. Unfortunately, due to illness, Taddeo decided he would sell the car and it was in 2009 that the current owner purchased the car with only 7,058 original miles. Under the current ownership, the car has been driven a total of 9,909 miles at a rate of roughly 100 miles per month.
The Car Today
Scott Grundfor Company has been fortunate to play host to a select group of exceptional original Mercedes-Benz vehicles over our 40 years in restoration and classic sales. This 560SL, dressed exceptionally well in its original black paint over a nearly flawless original black leather interior, presents almost identically to the day it was delivered new. Normally a litany of descriptive language applies to how one goes about detailing the aspects of a car, but for the avid Mercedes enthusiast or the R107 model expert, the only word that comes to mind as necessary for this 560SL is “mint”. With only 9,909 miles from new and still displaying original tags on the car that wash away in the presence of water, this Mercedes has all the hallmarks of a car that has not only never been driven in the rain but has also been subject to the very best in discerning levels of care from the day it was taken home from the dealership.
With the 560SL, Mercedes got it all just right, offering bullet-proof reliability, satisfying power, and aggressive aesthetics. The 560SL combined all that Mercedes learned about the V-8 R107 chassis cars and turned it into a cultural icon that quietly and confidently told the world that those behind the wheel had “arrived.” Standard equipment in all 560SL examples include a driver’s side airbag and ABS brakes. Interior improvements over previous 107 models include lovely burlwood accents, improved lateral seatback support, and a power passenger side mirror. This car is fully serviced, ready for show and drive and needs absolutely nothing.
