Our friends over at Gooding & Company had their first ever online-only auction…and yes, it appears that cars, similar to life itself, will persist! Yes, RM and others (including Bring-a-Trailer) have been well off to the races for a while, but it seems a little more real with others jumping into the online mixer. For their first foray into the online-only auction setting, Gooding & Company seems to have paid little mind towards reinventing the wheel while playing a conservative approach to estimates and reserves so as to end on a high note at the auction closing with what can only be deemed as a resounding success (given the circumstances). The mainstream media, headline grabbing $10M plus variety of collectible four-wheeler that always seems to grace Gooding’s Monterey Car Week related auction affairs were noticeably absent this year. This is due, one would assume, to reticence on behalf of otherwise would-be sellers towards exposing their wares in such an uneasy time in history. However, Covid-19 be damned, collectors paid up at pre-virus values for certain examples of great cars (as usual) and the rest were estimated expertly to the point where very few cars remain unsold.
For those of you who missed out or have been occupied otherwise, see below for the full lot listings link to Gooding’s first online only effort and the featured cars we picked out as interesting insight into market values on popular models, specifically ones we thought did particularly well.
