Monterey car week 2021 was spectacular in far too many ways to note here…but we’ll leave you with a few thoughts and our usual full lot list links as well as our picks for market barometer individual sales.
Unfortunately due to time constraints, there will be no particularly useful (or useless) analysis this time beyond the brief thoughts here, but trust us, if you’re a classic car person you will be bombarded in the coming days with commentary on how robust the market is coming off of some truly eye-popping auction performances this past weekend. Full time media outlets will have you covered on the statistical front and the auction houses themselves will surely spare no expense or detail in letting the world know about their successes over the weekend. And rightfully so, the weekend takeaway thoughts are quite simple really; it was an incredibly successful weekend for those in the auction houses and certainly a spectacular outing at the concours event on Sunday. Blue chip Mercedes-Benz models in particular saw some estimate shattering results which is always of interest to us and we have selected about 40 of sales that we were watching going into this past week within our highlights section.
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event itself was a particularly lovely affair with beautiful sunny weather flooding the oceanside golfing greens after a chilly morning in addition to some truly exceptional rolling art on display for those who love classic cars. A pre-war preservation class 1930 Packard 745 Deluxe Eight Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton and a post war Pininfarina class 1948 Bentley Cresta, both cars that Scott Grundfor Company helped represent on the lawn, notched podium finishes…always a cherry on top, especially given the fact that an invite to this most special of concours to present your special car is a victory in and of itself in most cases. The links to where full results for multiple auction houses can be found are below.
