An exciting collection of exquisite collector cars will be on offer at this year’s annual Scottsdale Auctions in Arizona.
Coming off of strong results in Monterey of 2018, Gooding and Company are displaying an eclectically robust lineup of collector grade offerings including the auctioning of another aluminum engine 300SL Roadster which seems poised to replicate the success of their previous $2.5M sale of a similar car in August of last year and are also trying to capitalize on the upsurge in values of 70’s and 80’s Mercedes models with a selection of high quality offerings on the lower value end of the market. And as expected, as with all of Gooding’s auctions, there will be the usual array of high value, tip top of the market headline making mega millions Ferrari’s on offer.
RM has its usual selection of across the board interest with market indicator blue chip Ferrari’s leading the field, among them a wonderful low mileage 288GTO and an apparently very well dialed in 275GTB/4 dressed in beautiful blue serra. The star here being 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Coupe Speciale by Pinin Farina with an estimated value of $11 – 13M. All in all and top to bottom, a very well composed set of classics available from RM Sotheby’s.
Our friends at Bonhams, not to be outdone, also have their bases covered with an array of special collectors items on the docket including a lovely blue Lamborghini Miura SV which along with the above from the other two of the big three auctions will give a good indication of market health at the very top end of collecting. The general display and class of operation at Bonhams is sure to be in fine form from the looks of things in advance of this years block crossings.
Further items of interest for general a perspective on the market will be a litany of 289 and 427 Shelby Cobra’s on offer which will define the market on these collection stalwarts for the next 6 months, and as is almost always the case on big auction weekends, a large number of E-type Jaguars are there for the taking with the quality of offerings across the board seemingly quite high and estimates on them to match.
Not to be outdone by the longer established “big boys” of the auction block and with an ever-growing presence, Worldwide Auctioneers have a notable, well sorted original interior 59′ 300SL Roadster dressed in black that should be worth a peek for anyone in the market for the authentic.
Along with the above there will be some high-reserve Ferrari icons such as the spectacular 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Coupe Speciale by Pinin Farina (RM), a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta (Gooding), 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Series 1 Spider (Bonhams) and a 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB Prototype (Gooding). If one were to combine the low estimates of these four examples alone (which are frankly not alone in their stratospheric values for the Scottsdale 2019 festivities) the numbers are already at $28,000,000 … Expect big total sales numbers when the dust clears on the Monday after!
Our summary along with links to all the major auctions can be found below. Don’t miss our 300SL lot recap at the bottom as well. Have fun and enjoy your weeks’ festivities in Arizona if you are headed that way, and look out for our post auction recap.
