Provenance
This late alloy block 300SL Roadster is just coming out of 34 years of single family ownership. Second owner of record is famous performer/singer Cher, of “Sonny and Cher” fame. Cher sold the car to Burt Sugarman of Hollywood, Ca, the famous Hollywood producer known most for the hit 1970’s Rock and Roll TV Show “Midnight Special”. In 1983, Sugarman sold the car to Richard Slobodien of New Jersey where it remained in single family ownership until this year (2017).
The Car
Originally delivered in DB 166 Blaugrau (Blue-Grey) Exterior with 202 Dark Red Leather Interior with Black Soft Top, this Roadster is in a very clean and respectable driving condition. Today the car appears in DB 050 White exterior with light tan interior and a black soft top. Cosmetically, this late aluminum block 300SL roadster is very presentable despite needing a few details attended to here and there to up its status to high quality driver. The exterior shows some paint chips and there is some checking in the paint on the right front headlight. In general, the paint has held up quite well throughout attesting to the quality of this older paint job. Chrome throughout shows no rust and is in driver quality condition with minimal pitting. The interior carpeting should be replaced as it is incorrect for the car, but overall, the interior is in nice driver quality condition throughout. The engine bay is in excellent condition and about as nice as one would want for a driving 300SL. The undercarriage has zero rust issues and shows no signs of accident damage anywhere. The underside looks to be completely original and in excellent condition, speaking to the storage and care this 300SL has had bestowed upon it.
A perfect candidate for driving as is, full restoration to concours status or anything in between, this excellent Alloy Block 300SL Roadster is ready for new ownership.
