Held in early March of 2020, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance was the last major car show event for Scott Grundfor Company, along with pretty much everyone else, prior to the onset of the widespread Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions. As we fast forward 15 months, to this past weekend, Bill Warner and the good people who run “The Amelia” are picking right back up where they left off last year (albeit months delayed), sparking the awakening of the 2021 concours circuit scene with what was a sensational Sunday event. An incredible array of collector cars from near and far adorned the lawns of the Ritz Carlton with a crowd rivaling that of the pre-pandemic world ready to take take part in the fresh air festivities with friends. Despite our own uncertainty over potential turnout (for obvious reasons), no such malaise was in affect on the show field lawn with impressive attendance both in the form of enthusiast onlookers and exceptional motor cars on display, suggesting that perhaps, just maybe, the good times are upon us again, especially for those itching to get back out there and mingle with machines in tow.

Beyond the stirring concours show on Sunday, it was also notable that major auctioneers RM Sotheby’s and Bonhams made the best of a year’s worth of pent up in person auction deprivation with what can only be described as a remarkable showing of sales results across the board. We personally witnessed incredible enthusiasm as offered lots crossed the block with many high estimates topped and superb overall sell through rates. A huge variety cars were on offer with excellent fare spanning the brass era to modern supercars and everything in-between. It was a special weekend for our company as well as the many friends and colleagues we got to reunite with after more than a year away from the major car show / auction weekend scene.
Below you will find links to both Bonhams and RM Sotheby’s full results listings on their official websites. Additionally, we have selected specific cars we were have highlighted numerous individual lots that we were watching going into the auction weekend and have noted how each of these market indicator cars fared. The answer to that, almost without fail, is very well with robust sales prices suggesting the market is surging!
