After some sunny weather and classic cars, the numbers are in. A total of approximately $121 million dollars in automobiles were sold this past weekend – 365 cars total – all sales numbers compiled by Hagerty insurance and vehicle-valuation . Total sales were down from Amelia’s 2016 auctions total by about $19 million dollars – but the results were still nothing to sneeze at. Total sales would have noticeably higher if not for some featured high dollar vehicles that did not sell.
RM Sothebys saw the largest total auction sales with $71.8 Million and an average sale price of $524,234 per car. RM sales were also 7 of the top 10 total in dollar value. Gooding & Company’s sales finished up second with total of $30.8 million, averaging $440,267 per car, while Bonhams sold a total of $10 million. Smaller auctions houses Motostalgia brought in a total of $4.5 million and Hollywood Wheels brought in $4.2 million in sales.
300SL sales were fairly strong with a 1954 Gullwing from RM Sotheby’s bringing in it’s high-end estimate range along with a 1957 Gullwing also from RM, which sold above estimate.
