The original colors were DB 180 Silver Gray Metallic with 333 Blue Leather. It was a special order vehicle (#855 378) and was shipped from the factory on March 15, 1957. It is one of the last Gullwings produced in 1956 with only an additional 70 units constructed in 1957. The Gullwings were being continually upgraded during the 4 years of production. This car, being one of the last made, would incorporate these improvements. So in addition to the many minor factory upgrades it has
the improved brakes, steering, engine oil pressure system and improveddual point distributor. Taken together these give noticeably better performance and reliability.
The first owner is listed as Bruce Line of Glendale Calif. Noted
“Dream Car” Collector Joe Bortz of Chicago was the next owner
(ownership dates unknown). He sold the Gullwing to Jim Becker of Naperville, Ill in 1978. Mr. Becker said that the mileage of the
Gullwing at that time was about 60,000 miles.
chassis were disassembled and prepared for rebuilding.
New parts were purchased for the mechanical repairs. The chassis was painted and partially assembled. We inventoried the Gullwing prior to purchase to be sure that it was complete. The body and panel fits are excellent with no rust.
