Prior to heading to Monterey for last weekends’ classic automobile events, Scott Grundfor and Hans Kleissl – two of the world’s top 300SL experts and restorers for decades – got together, and Hans brought a little surprise.
This HK Engineering (Germany) owned gullwing race car has a highly modified 300SL engine. It’s been equipped with 16 inch wheels, low profile racing tires, as well as disc brakes in the front and rear. The car has on-board extensive real-time engine monitoring and has been stripped down to about 800 lbs less than a standard gullwing – which means it MOVES! The car is an original gullwing that has been race modified, not a car built from scratch.
